Choosing a route

4 Islands, Hong Islands or 7 Islands from Krabi

Two routes cover the same islands off Ao Nang, by day or into the evening. The Hong Islands are a separate group in another national park.

The short answer

Pick 4 Islands for a day trip that is back before dark, the Hong Islands for the lagoon in a separate national park further north, and 7 Islands for the same area as 4 Islands with snorkelling stops, the sunset and dinner on Koh Poda and, on some tours, plankton.

  • Day trip with lunch, usually on Koh Poda
  • Back before dark, no sunset

7 Islands

  • The same core, plus snorkelling at Koh Ma Tang Ming or Koh Yawasam
  • Afternoon into the evening, sunset and dinner on Koh Poda
  • On some tours a plankton swim at Koh Raeng after dark

4 Islands by day

The 4 Islands trip is the daytime version of the same area. It stops at Phra Nang Cave Beach, Chicken Island, Tup and Koh Poda, where lunch is usually served. The tour on this site picks you up between 7:50 and 8:50 and leaves the pier in Ao Nang at 9:00, by longtail or by speedboat; the speedboat makes a short stop at Railay, so guests from Railay can join only that option. With no evening part, it is the shorter day for small children, and a travel guide calls it the safer first choice if you get seasick.

The Hong Islands

The Hong group lies further north, in Than Bok Khorani National Park. Trips go to the Hong Lagoon and the beach on Koh Hong, often with Koh Lao Lading, Pakbia and the viewpoint known as Hong 360. Travel sites give about 20 to 30 minutes by speedboat from Ao Nang and 40 to 45 minutes by longtail. The speedboat tour on this site takes seven hours, with a picnic lunch on Koh Hong, kayaking as an option and at least two beach stays of about 40 minutes; it can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before. Because Hong is a different park, it has its own fee, separate from the islands off Ao Nang.

7 Islands into the evening

A 7 Islands tour covers the area of the 4 Islands trip in the afternoon, adds snorkelling stops and ends with the sunset and dinner on Koh Poda. On tours with a plankton stop, the boat goes on to the plankton spot after dark, Koh Raeng on the tour in the table. You get back to the pier at night. Which sunset tour to book.

If you want the Hong Lagoon and the islands near Ao Nang in one day on your own boat, the private longtail from Ao Nang has a route that combines both areas except Railay. Private longtail routes.

Guests on the 4 Islands and Hong day trips

From the day trips in the table. These are busy routes: guests mention large crowds at every stop, about 30 people on the Hong speedboat, kayaking that did not happen and, on the 4 Islands trip, clothes stolen from the boat. Keep valuables with you on the beach stops.

“We’ve just got home following a great day out with SeaEagle, visiting the Hong Islands. Everything about the day was well organised, from a being picked up at our hotel to the lovely lunch we were served. We were taken to the lagoon at Hong Island first due to the tides, given plenty of time for pics. The snorkelling at Koh Hong was brilliant as were the views from the High View point. We opted for the kayaks and headed for the lagoon entrance along the coast under the stunning cliffs and beaching on a beautiful bay. Great fun, and well worth it. A little kayaking experience helps, but definitely not essential. […]”

“Fantastic trip! Excellent organization, a wonderful guide, Gift ❤️, and an amazing, helpful boat crew. The pickup truck ride in the back was brilliant too! :) How can you not fall in love with Thailand? ❤️”
Wojciech · Poland · October 2026 4 Islands day trip by longtail or speedboat
“Cookie was an incredible guide, her English is perfect and is super friendly. Completely apart from the guide. I would like the agency clarifies how far is the lagoon and how difficult it can be reached by kayak. Outside that the tour was amazing.”
Carlos · Costa Rica · October 2026 Hong Islands by speedboat with lunch
“The tour was well organized, and we had enough time at each stop. However, it is a typical mass tourism activity, so expect large crowds at every location. We were also assigned seats at the front of the boat in the direct sun instead of inside, where everyone else was sitting. The biggest disappointment was that my clothes were stolen after we were told it was safe to leave our belongings on the boat. […]”

“Approximately 30 people on a speed boat, it wasn’t horrible, but it was not great for me personally, other than that the tour itself was pretty good and I enjoyed it”

FAQ

What is the difference between 4 Islands and 7 Islands?

The area is the same. A 4 Islands tour is a day trip to Phra Nang Cave Beach, Chicken, Tup and Koh Poda, usually with lunch on Poda. A 7 Islands tour runs into the evening, adds snorkelling stops, the sunset and dinner on Koh Poda and, on some tours, a plankton swim.

Are the Hong Islands part of the 7 Islands?

No. They are a separate group further north, in Than Bok Khorani National Park, with the Hong Lagoon as the main stop.

Is the park fee the same for Hong?

No. The Hong Islands are in a different national park with its own fee. Like the fee for the islands off Ao Nang, it is usually not in the tour price and is paid in cash.

Which route suits small children?

A day trip is the shorter day: the 4 Islands tour has no evening part and ends before dark. The 7 Islands sunset tours run into the night. The 4 Islands trip takes children from 2 years, the Hong Islands trip from 3.
